SNOWMASS VILLAGE, COLORADO

Maroon Bells

The Maroon Bells are the most photographed mountains in Colorado and one of the most photographed mountain settings in North America. The twin 14,000-foot peaks (Maroon Peak/14,156 ft. and North Maroon Peak/14,014 ft.) offer up a dramatic backdrop to Maroon Lake and provide excellent photo opportunities in every season. The Maroon Bells Wilderness is one of the most scenic areas in Colorado and offers up various hiking trails and sightseeing opportunities only 12 miles from Snowmass Village.

Getting There:
From Memorial Day to Labor Day the Maroon Bells can only be accessed by public bus between the hours of 9AM & 5PM. You are welcome to drive your own car before 9AM and after 5PM or if you have a child in a car seat (booster seats do not count). Please be prepared to pay a $10 per vehicle fee should you choose to drive up. After Labor Day, bus access will only be in place Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays. The road will be open to traffic Monday-Thursday, again the $10/vehicle fee would be required.

The Maroon Bells bus can be accessed at Aspen Highlands which is just 2 miles up Maroon Creek road on the left-hand side. There is free parking available at Aspen Highlands. Purchase bus tickets for $6, $3 on Wednesdays, inside the Four Mountain Sports. Buses depart every half hour. If you don’t have your own car you can also take the RFTA bus from Snowmass to Castle/Maroon Creek stop at the roundabout. This bus is free & departs every 30 minutes from Snowmass Mall/Base Village on the :15 & :45 of every hour. Take the Castle/Maroon bus to Aspen Highlands & then transfer for the Maroon Bells Bus.
